On Sunday, December 7, the Very Rev. Archimandrite George was consecrated to the episcopate by His Grace Bishop Gabriel of Montreal and Canada, His Grace Bishop Peter of Cleveland and His Grace Bishop John of Caracas, receivng the title of Bishop of Mayfield. His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion could not be present as he will be attending the funeral of Patriarch Alexy in Russia.

On Friday, December 5, 2008, Bishop John of Caracas, visiting Holy Trinity Monastery, abbot of the monastery Archimandrite Luke, monks, faculty and seminarians gathered in the Holy Trinity Cathedral to serve first panikhida in memory of the repose of His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II.

It was with heartfelt pain that I learned of the repose of His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia, and on behalf of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, I express our condolences to the Holy Synod, my brother archpastors, reverend fathers, brethren, sisters and children of the Russian Orthodox Church.

His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia Reposed Today

Dec. 5 (Bloomberg) -- Patriarch Alexy II, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, died today, state television reported.

Alexy II died at his residence outside of Moscow shortly after 10 a.m. local time, Moscow Patriarchate spokesman Vladimir Vigilyansky said in comments posted on the Web site of state broadcaster Vesti-24. The patriarch was 79.
